Storm season is upon us my friends and today is yet another day of severe weather. If you are like many pet owners, your for buddy may be feeling and acting a bit anxious. Why is this? Why do storms seem to affect our pets like it does? We get that thunder is a bit sudden and can make anyone jump at the sound of a sudden CRACK. But does it seem more than that? Let's find out.....
So, as I researched for why our furry best friends are so disturbed by storms, I ran across an article that actually explained it. You see, it isn't just that loud Crack that is upsetting our pets (although that is one factor), it is also because storms physically affect them! What???? Yes! According to an article I found on Rover.com, the change in the atmosphere that happens with a storm can cause an uncomfortable static electricity buildup in your pets fur! And, that buildup can also produce painful shocks to your fur buddy (https://www.rover.com/blog/dog-storm-phobias/)!
However, there are things you can do to help, such as putting a "cape" on your dig when a storm is coming. You can read more about it by following the link above.
Another good, informative read is from the ASPCA. This article provides 5 safety tips for storm preparedness & your pet. You can read that here: https://www.aspcapro.org/resource/shelter-health-poison-control/5-pet-safety-tips-storm-preparedness.
So during the stormy season, or any storm in any season for that matter, remember that your fur buddy probably has more going on than just being startled by the oh so loud CRACK of thunder. So let's show them some additional love and comfort during these times. You never know, it might just give you a little extra love and comfort you didn't know you needed 😍
Till next time,
Your Friends from Got Poop?
